Character poetry

I don't want to make life pretty. I want to find love in the real.

I write character poetry that is light and honest. I am not interested in making life pretty, because the pretty version is usually the least true one. I would rather sit with the small, unglamorous details, the fruit bowl full of keys, the 4% battery, the hiya shouted across a road, and let them say what they mean. That is where I keep finding love, in the real.

For the self I keep finding.

The Spirits We Didn't Drink

For Barry Hogan.

What could have been

Written in a time of singleness where it just didn't work out. As a serial monogamist, being alone is hard.
